I might introduce a prize for the best after action report, because there are some real gems coming through, such as this, by Fjordus:
After watching his Draconian allies fall to Ayenara’s forces, the pressure was especially on Fixle Rustdigger to secure the flank against an unknown adversary. An adversary that would reveal itself to be a foe all too familiar to him—the Archdruid. This would be the second time during the Great War that Fixle would face nature’s wrath, but had faith that gunpowder and technology could rule any battlefield. With this faith in technology, Fixle took the battlefield with confidence.
Early we would secure an Elven village that would aid the Goblin hordes with lighting magic. We first met Kaskar the Keeper’s furry friends on the right flank of the small Elf village secured earlier. There Kaskar and I engaged in small skirmishes, in which Kaskar mostly won. Our hot-air balloons are decent scouts, but lack combat capability alone.
Bad luck must’ve soon fell on one of Kaskar’s companions after attacking a brigand camp. The hero’s gear sat in the damaged camp. The companion’s mission of destroying the brigands was obviously unsuccessful. We drove the brigands out, secured the gear, then grouped for what would be a march to victory.
Fixle, his companions, and a horde of muskets and Storm Sisters set out toward the enemy throne city, burning every village and outpost in their path. When the army arrived at the capital, Kaskar’s forces were nowhere to be found. They had just enlisted the help of a dragon two days away from their throne city. The Goblin horde marched into the city almost unscathed. The next day a scouting party of muskets ran into Kaskar and his boar friend. Three volleys from the Goblin formations ended the battle. Kaskar’s last words were “Soon I will get my revenge”. Maybe he will, but not during this fight.
This match was interesting in that both players scouted very well, but never knew where the other player’s main army was located until it revealed itself. I believe we both had great visibility of the battlefield. mrXD89 had very bad luck losing his hero and army early against the brigand camp. I managed to pick up two rare items he dropped, which boosted the defense of my main character up to 16 around turn 9 or 10. His second stroke of bad luck came while bringing the dragon back to his throne. His force were split and I capitalized on it ending the match.
Overall, our scores were close with no player ever really being in the lead. Fixle Rustdigger’s Goblin muskets and Elf Storm Sisters just happened to be in the right place at the right time on more than one occasion.
Great game, mrXD89! Hit me up on Steam if you ever want to play!
